The Legend of the Shepherdess and the Condor

PeruSpanishLima

Long ago, in the high mountains of the Andes, there lived a beautiful and humble shepherdess named Qori. She tended her flock of llamas and alpacas with great care and sang the most enchanting songs as she worked.

One day, while singing near a cliff, her voice reached the ears of Kuntur, the mighty Condor, king of the skies. Captivated by her pure voice and gentle spirit, Kuntur transformed himself into a handsome young man and descended to meet her.

They fell deeply in love. For many months, they met in secret. Qori taught him about life on the earth, and he showed her the wonders of the sky. But Kuntur was a creature of the heavens, and Qori belonged to the mountains.

One fateful day, Qori’s father discovered their love and forbade her from seeing the stranger again. Heartbroken, Qori climbed to the highest peak and called out to Kuntur. When he appeared in his true majestic form as a giant Condor, she ran to him and embraced him.

In that moment of pure love, the gods took pity on them. They transformed Qori into a beautiful mountain flower and allowed Kuntur to carry her spirit with him forever across the skies.

To this day, when the wind blows strongly through the Andes, you can still hear Qori’s song, and the Condor flies low over the mountains, forever searching for his beloved shepherdess.
