Batik
IndonesiaIndonesianJakarta
One of the most treasured traditional crafts in our Indonesian community is Batik.

Significance:
Batik is a centuries-old wax-resist dyeing technique that produces intricate patterns on cloth.
It was recognized by UNESCO in 2009 as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Each pattern and color carries deep meaning — some symbolize fertility, protection, status, or good fortune.
Batik is worn on special occasions (weddings, ceremonies, national events) and is a powerful symbol of Indonesian identity, patience, and artistic excellence.
The process of making batik by hand (especially written batik / batik tulis) is meditative and requires great skill and time.
