Deep beneath the surreal rock formations of Cappadocia, Turkey, lies a breathtaking network of fully functional underground cities. The most famous, Derinkuyu, plunges nearly 280 feet into the earth and could comfortably shelter up to 20,000 people!Carved out of soft volcanic ash rock thousands of years ago, this subterranean marvel was designed as a massive bomb shelter to protect citizens during wartime. The planning was incredibly sophisticated: it featured multiple levels complete with living quarters, stables, churches, wine cellars, and schools. To survive months of confinement, engineers built massive vertical ventilation shafts for fresh air and blocked entryways with giant, rolling stone doors that could only be opened from the inside!Watch the full video to explore the jaw-dropping ancient bunker city hidden under the sand!#Malegado #Cappadocia #Derinkuyu #UndergroundCity #AncientBunkers #DidYouKnow #LearnHistory #EngineeringMarvels #HiddenHistoryWould you like the next video description to look at how they cooked food underground without choking on smoke, or should we explore the famous hot air balloons that fly above these cities today?
