1. Greetings & Removing Shoes

  • Firm handshake, eye contact. Say "Bună ziua" (good day).

  • Remove shoes when entering a home (slippers offered).

  • Never wear outdoor shoes inside (non-negotiable).

2. Hospitality & Țuică (Plum Brandy)

  • Guests are treated like royalty. Never refuse food or drink politely.

  • Țuică is offered upon arrival (say "Noroc!" – cheers).

  • Refusing is fine if you say "Nu beau alcool" (I don't drink).

3. Punctuality & Public Behavior

  • Business: exactly on time. Home dinner: 5-10 min late. Parties: 15-30 min late.

  • Never arrive early to a home invitation.

  • Orderly queues, give seat to elderly, no loud talking on transport.

4. Church Etiquette & Tipping

  • Women cover hair (scarf), men remove hats. No shorts or sleeveless.

  • No talking inside. Light a candle, stand during service.

  • Tipping: 10-15% in restaurants, round up for taxis (cash preferred).
