Common Meals in a Taiwanese Community
Taiwanese food is famous for its fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and street food culture. Here are some of the most common everyday meals we enjoy:
1. Beef Noodle Soup (Niurou Mian)

Rich beef broth with tender beef, noodles, pickled vegetables, and scallions.
Considered Taiwan’s national dish — a comforting staple.
2. Lu Rou Fan (Braised Pork Rice)

Minced pork belly braised in soy sauce, served over steamed rice with a boiled egg and pickled vegetables.
Quick, affordable, and loved by everyone.
3. Dumplings (Jiaozi / Potstickers)

Steamed or pan-fried dumplings filled with pork, cabbage, or shrimp.
Often eaten for breakfast or as a casual meal.
4. Danzai Noodle Soup

A traditional Tainan dish with thin noodles, minced pork, shrimp, and a special broth.
5. Fried Chicken & Scallion Pancake

Crispy Taiwanese-style fried chicken (bigger and juicier than Western versions) or scallion pancakes (cong you bing).
6. Bubble Tea & Breakfast

Many start the day with soy milk, youtiao (fried dough), and steamed buns, followed by bubble tea (zhen zhu nai cha) as a daily drink.
We also love hot pot (huo guo), stinky tofu, oyster omelets, and night market snacks!
