Kantha Embroidery
One of the most beautiful and meaningful traditional crafts from our Bengali community is Kantha (or Kantha stitch embroidery).

Significance:
Kantha is a centuries-old folk embroidery tradition, originally created by rural Bengali women using old, worn-out sarees and dhotis.
Layers of old cloth are stitched together with simple running stitches to make quilts, throws, stoles, and garments.
The motifs often tell stories — trees of life, animals, gods and goddesses, daily village life, lotus flowers, and geometric patterns.
It symbolizes sustainability, thrift, creativity, and the quiet artistic expression of Bengali women.
What was once a practical way to recycle cloth has become a celebrated art form and a symbol of Bengali cultural identity. Today, fine Kantha work is highly valued and worn with pride.
