Special occasions in Jordan
In Jordan, special occasions are filled with warmth, family, food, and tradition. Here’s how we celebrate:
Eid al-Fitr

It marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a time of fasting and spiritual reflection. It is a celebration of gratitude, forgiveness, and renewal.
We start with Eid prayer at the mosque, then return home for new clothes, big family breakfasts with mansaf and sweets like kunafa, giving Eidiya (money to children), visiting relatives, and sharing food with neighbours.
Eid al-Adha

Known as the Festival of Sacrifice, it commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It teaches sacrifice, charity, and sharing blessings.
Families sacrifice an animal and distribute the meat to the poor, relatives, and neighbours. We gather for large meals and spend time together emphasizing generosity.
Weddings

Weddings are major multi-day events. They usually include a Henna Night, the joyful Zaffa procession with music and dancing, signing the marriage contract, and a big feast with Dabke dancing.
Newborn Celebrations (Aqeeqah)

On the 7th day, we name the baby, sacrifice a sheep, and gather family for a meal.
Graduations & Achievements

Simple family gatherings with food and sweets to show pride and support.
No matter the occasion, the heart of every celebration is family unity, hospitality, and sharing joy with others.
